Carallon was founded in early 2004 by a group of seven engineers and developers who had previously worked together at a pioneering UK lighting control company.

From the start, Carallon was established as an employee-owned and employee-run business. This structure empowered the team to pursue the kind of exciting, innovative product development they were passionate about.

Over the past 20 years, Carallon has grown from a team of seven to over 100 employees. Along the way, we’ve launched and grown successful independent companies including Pharos, Brompton, and SixEye.

Our core mission has remained unchanged: to remain independent and to create cutting-edge, best-in-class and future-ready technology.

Employee-Owned for the Future

In 2020, Carallon’s founding shareholders transferred their controlling interest to an Employee Ownership Trust. This ensures that the company will continue to be owned by and run for the benefit of its employees—preserving our founding vision for the future.

The Trust Board is responsible for strategic decisions regarding the company, and includes four current employees: two of the founding members, and two elected employee representatives. The final member of the Trust Board is an independent chairperson.

Now all employees have an indirect stake in Carallon’s success, without any personal financial risk. If the company does well, Carallon employees receive a percentage of their salary as an annual bonus, which thanks to incentives from the UK government to encourage employee-ownership is tax-free (up to a maximum of £3,600 per employee).

We’re a certified B Corp

In 2023, we proudly became a certified B Corp, joining a global community of over 8,400 purpose-driven businesses — including more than 2,000 in the UK — that are committed to using business as a force for good.

Achieving B Corp status means we were rigorously assessed across five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. The “B” in B Corp stands for Benefit, reflecting our dedication to creating positive impact — not just profit.

This certification is more than a badge; it’s a commitment. To maintain our B Corp status, we undergo reassessment every three years, ensuring we continuously review, improve, and evolve the way we work and the impact we have on the world around us.

The flexibility and dynamic nature of Carallon’s team have been invaluable.
